Research
Dr. Shulman is involved in the development and testing of new therapies for patients with breast cancer. At the national level, he is a member of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B Breast Core Committee. He is the national cochair of a recently completed adjuvant chemotherapy study comparing cyclophosphamide and doxorubicin with doxorubicin and docetaxel for women with primary breast cancer and 0 to 3 positive axillary nodes.
He is the national principal investigator for the current node-negative adjuvant breast cancer trial which is a 2 x 2 factorial design comparing cyclophosphamide and doxorubicin with single-agent paclitaxel given as either standard or long duration therapy. This protocol is active throughout the United States with a planned accrual of 4,646 patients. In addition, Dr. Shulman is interested in the development of new biological targeted therapies and is actively engaged with several pharmaceutical companies in the development of these promising agents.
